Dear Oprah,
At St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care, we whole-heartedly believe in achieving one’s dreams, and we have been living ours since 1999. We’ve built not only a community, but also a home for people of all ages and abilities south of downtown Milwaukee.
Each day, the young, the elderly and people with disabilities come together at St. Ann Center for our unique daycare. They receive state-of-the-art services based on their needs, and also loving support from each person they interact with. The touching moments that happen when the generations are together have resulted in unparalleled successes for our youth, our adults and our community.
We passionately believe that everyone should experience this level of community care regardless of income, age or any other factors that may act as a barrier. With this in mind, we are in the process of replicating our center and its services on Milwaukee’s northside, the most underserved area of our community. This new center would meet community needs and serve as a foundation for community growth by cherishing the beauty of their culture, 97% being African American.
We’ve included a video of our president, Sister Edna Lonergan, who explains more about our northside project. As passionate and hopeful as we are at St. Ann Center, this endeavor creates many new challenges that would be a struggle if we face them alone. We are reaching out to you because your ability to touch the hearts of the nation is an inspiration to us all. We also know you share our sincerest belief in caring for the needs of others through all stages of life.
