Urban Ecology Center’s Seasons Celebration Inspires Winter Wonder

By January 20, 2026No Comments2 min read

As winter ushered in brisk air and snow-covered landscapes, St. Ann Center’s Bucyrus campus embraced the season by welcoming the Urban Ecology Center for an Intergenerational Seasons Celebration program.

During the event, our child and adult clients worked together to create a large, winter-themed group mural. Seasonal “stations” educated clients about animal tracks and the habits of Wisconsin mammals that are active during the winter months. The event included hot cocoa, and plenty of curiosity about the wonders of nature during all seasons.

“The event was really nice, and I feel that the kiddos and adults truly enjoyed it!” said Natasha Schwingle, Nature-Based Curriculum Teacher at Bucyrus. “They were able to learn about different winter animals and their tracks. They got to express their inner artists with stencil coloring and stickers, and they even got to enjoy some hot cocoa – who doesn’t love hot cocoa?”

The Urban Ecology Center, with three locations throughout Milwaukee, strives to connect people in cities to nature and each other. Their year-round programs for children and adults get people outdoors through hands-on learning about science, nature, and sustainably.

“I can’t wait to see what other events the Urban Ecology Center has in store for St. Ann Center,” shared Natasha.

Celebrating each season’s unique offerings helps us appreciate the beauty of our natural world throughout the year.
