Warm sun and cool jazz were the perfect combination when the Nite ‘n Day Band played for fans of all ages at St. Ann Center’s Bucyrus Campus. The intergenerational activity was the first performance of 2020 at the Indaba Band Shell—during a summer that was to have launched a series of family-friendly concerts.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the entertainment was a private affair, with adult clients carefully spaced in chairs under the band shell’s protective awning. The childcare kids claimed spots behind them on the grassy hillside overlooking the stage.

The concert was livestreamed, so the entire community could tune in virtually on St. Ann Center’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Songs like “My Girl,” “People Get Ready” and “Last Two Dollars” brought the audience to their feet—with clients joining CNAs for an impromptu dance party.

Band leader Bobby Jiles has close ties to St. Ann Center. He’s a personal care worker in the Akachi Adult Day Care Unit. “It’s a little like being in Heaven,” he laughed. “I have a chance to work with these wonderful clients, and I can use my talents to entertain them, too.”
