St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care will present a livestreamed concert by the Nite ‘n Day Band at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 24. The popular Milwaukee group will perform an upbeat mix of R&B, Motown, gospel and smooth jazz for music lovers of all ages.
The private concert, a special intergenerational event, will take place at the Indaba Band Shell, on the 7.5-acre grounds of St. Ann Center’s Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Ave., for an audience of elders, adults with disabilities and children who participate in the center’s world-renowned day care program. Audience members will wear masks and social distance.
The livestream can be watched live on St. Ann Center’s Facebook Page or viewed later on St. Ann Center’s YouTube channel.
This summer was to have marked the beginning of Indaba Nights, a public summer entertainment series.
“We are saddened the series had to be canceled as a precaution against COVID-19,” said Gloria Miller, St. Ann Center’s special events director. “We know how hungry people are for entertainment right now. This livestreamed concert is one way to bring music to them safely and give them a taste of what’s in store for next year.”
Nite ‘n Day Band includes Bobby Jiles, keyboard, guitar, saxophone and vocals; Julie Thompson, bass guitar and vocals; J.C. Maebone, lead rhythm guitar; Harvey Westmoreland, drums and vocals and Donnie McGregor, bass guitar, keyboard and vocals. Band members have performed at Summerfest, the Wisconsin State Fair and neighborhood festivals including Garfield Days and the Locust Street Festival of Music and Art.
With local concerts being canceled due to the ongoing pandemic, the band is excited about the opportunity to perform virtually.
“Technology is a wonderful thing,” said Jiles, 72, who’s been singing since he was 6 years old. “We’re also looking forward to playing for the many generations who spend their day at St. Ann Center.”
The Indaba (Swahili for “gathering place”) Band Shell opened for the first time last summer, built in partnership with Parklawn Assembly of God Church to bring family-friendly entertainment to the north side community.
