St. Ann Center’s definitely got talent! The kids and adults spent weeks exercising their vocal cords and breaking in their dancing shoes in preparation for two intergenerational talent shows held at each of the center’s campuses.
Rising stars at the Stein Campus performed before a standing-room-only crowd including clients, children, staff and family members. The kids from the Butterfly room kicked things off with a rousing rendition of “Six Little Geese,” flapping and honking their way into everyone’s hearts. The Fireflies made a splash with the song “Slippery Fish,” including guest appearances by a homemade octopus, crocodile, great white shark and humungous whale. Decked out in wings and authentic-looking stingers, the Bumblebees started everyone singing along to “Baby Bumblebee.” After the Beetles broke out some impressive dance moves, Miss Mary, Vice President of Education and Childcare Services, literally raised the woof with an audience-participation version of “Who Let the Dogs Out.”
The adult clients from the Veranda took the stage next, with Barry reciting a poem he composed and Linda singing a pitch-perfect version of “Annie’s Song.” Marilyn from Northwest rocked Faith Hill’s “Breathe,” and Sharon, a CNA from Wellness earned everyone’s “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” when she channeled Aretha Franklin.
At the Bucyrus Campus, the talent show had three key rules: 1) no booing 2) clap for everyone and 3) everybody is a winner! Christina, an adult client, immediately won the support of the crowd with her energetic performance of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” Linda was up next, belting out “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” followed by Judy, shaking things up with “Twist and Shout” and some fancy footwork.
The tumbling mats were rolled out for a trio of agile gals from our Summer Camp program with enough energy to light up the atrium. Tavion, Kendricks, Madisyn and Jekari from the Afterschool program showed off some fine-tuned choreography, and Cathy from the adult unit dazzled with her graceful interpretation of “Flashdance.” Pamela proved wheelchairs dance, too, as she sang and grooved to “My Girl.” And the childcare teachers’ synchronized dance routine clearly proved they’re experts in the three R’s—readin,’ writin’ and rhythm!
