The Solar Plexus chakra holds tremendous power over the way we feel and project ourselves. When it is open and its energy flowing smoothly, we feel on top of the word. When it’s blocked, we may feel bloated and blah.
Have you ever have a day when everything went your way? The commute was smooth. You finished your project. The boss loved it. The kids are behaving. Dinner turned out great. Your partner is on clean-up duty. And you feel fabulous.
Then your Solar Plexus chakra is likely humming along just fine, too.
The solar plexus chakra, also called the third chakra or Manipura – is located a few inches above your belly button, and governs the more fiery elements of your body and mind. Because it impacts your strength, your stamina and willpower, think of it as your take-charge chakra … and take good care of it.
Internally, the solar plexus is tied to your digestive system, gall bladder, pancreas, adrenal glands and liver. Emotionally, it’s the chakra that asks you to love and respect yourself, keep yourself physically and mentally strong, and recognize and honor your inner power.

The bright yellow Manipura symbol is shaped like a 10-petaled lotus flower that may also bring to mind the sun. The downward-pointing triangle at its center represents fire – literally the fire in your gut that can make you feel invincible. Or worried that you are becoming sick.
When your solar plexus is blocked, you may suddenly be plagued with gut issues, including your stomach, bowel, pancreas, liver and colon. You may develop diabetes or experience it worsening. You may even notice tenderness and bleeding in your gums. Emotionally, you may suddenly develop low self-esteem, become easily frustrated or aggressive, or want to eat too much or too little.

Ways to unblock the solar plexus chakra and return to your confident, can-do self are associated with its connection to the color yellow and the fiery nature of the sun. Get outside and let its rays shine down on you. Wear yellow clothes, and load up yellow foods such as bananas, lemons, pineapple, yellow mango, and yellow squash. Sip citrus, ginger and saffron tea, and spend time with jewelry or crystals made from gemstones such as citrine, amber, orange calcite, tiger eye, sunstone and lemon quartz. Or diffuse bracing essential oils such as rosemary, cedarwood or spearmint.
Everyone loves being around a person who radiates confidence and kindness, so be good to your third chakra and let it show you just how good your life can be.
Come back next Thursday to learn more about the fourth chakra, Anahata, or the heart chakra. Located, yes, over your beating heart, Anahata governs hate, fear and healing.
