Local Restaurants Spicing Up St. Ann Center Chili Sale

By March 15, 2017No Comments2 min read

More than a half-dozen local restaurants are spicing up the Chili & Vintage Jewelry Sale by donating their chili to the event, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at St. Ann Center’s Stein Campus, 2801 E. Morgan Ave.

Varieties will include everything from extra-spicy to mild, chicken to veggie and traditional to kickin’ Cajun. Restaurants donating chili include The Soup Market, 2211 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.;  The Soup Otzie’s, 3950 S. Howell Ave.; Lulu Café & Bar, 2265 S Howell Ave.; The Big Eazy, 2053 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Dr.; Café Corazon, 2394 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.; C-viche, 2165 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.; and Bumstead Provisions, 2671 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.

Even the Milwaukee Fire Department will be stirring things up, with a hearty batch donated by MFD Engine Co. #1, letting civilians get a taste of that famous firehouse cooking. And as per tradition, St. Ann Center volunteers are also contributing steaming Crock-Pots full of homemade and family favorite varieties. All in all, shoppers will be able to choose from close to 20 kinds of delicious chili!

Choosing may prove tough, so chili will be sold in $1 sample sizes, as well as $4 meal-sized bowls with all the fixin’s.  All proceeds from the sale support the clients of all ages and abilities who receive day services at St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care.

Another shining star of Saturday’s sale will be the collection of vintage, retro and heirloom jewelry — hundreds of necklaces, bracelets, pins, earrings and more. Volunteers earlier sorted through pieces donated by churches, organizations and individuals, then cleaned, repaired, and priced each to sell quickly, again to benefit the center’s clients. This is a great resource for anyone who wants to find fun accents from funky to classic on a budget.

Free chair massages given by St. Ann Center’s certified massage therapists will add to the event, as will demonstrations of pet massage.

The event is part of St. Ann Center’s weekly winter Indoor Market, with more than 20 vendors selling local produce and honey, organically raised meats, natural soaps & lotions, quality handcrafts, home decor, unique gifts and more.  There will be live music from 10 a.m. to noon.
