Golden Hawaiian Dancers Spark Intergenerational Fun

The lovely ladies from Golden Hawaiians said “aloha” to the kids and adults at St. Ann Center’s Stein Campus with a colorful show filled with the magic of the islands. The dancers, ages 50 and better, all study Hawaiian dance under the direction of seasoned instructor Anita Bradley at Wilson Park Senior Center.

Decked out in shimmering “grass” skirts and leis, the dancers hulaed their way into the hearts of all ages, using their hands, hips and smiles to tell stories from such exotic locales as Kona, Polynesia and Bora Bora. Keeping time with lava castanets and bamboo pu‘ili sticks, they mesmerized the audience with their tropical talent.

The children and adults got into the act, learning hand motions that coincide with the lyrics of Don Ho’s “Tiny Bubbles.”  And in the true spirit of the season, the dancers wrapped up their performance by swaying to some Christmas favorites.
