Sparkles from the heart
Have some long-loved jewelry pieces you’d like to go to a good home? Think outside of the jewelry box and donate it to St. Ann Center’s Vintage Jewelry Collection.
The eye-popping collection has humble beginnings. For years, Sr. Edna Lonergan, president of St. Ann Center, held rummage sales to raise extra money for the children, elderly and adults with special needs served at the center. Since jewelry was always a bestseller, Sr. Edna began collecting donations of vintage and gently used jewelry.
Florence Nevins, a longtime St. Ann Center supporter and volunteer, realized the value of many of the donated gems and began researching and organizing the vintage jewelry. Under her guidance, the collection continued to grow at a dazzling rate.
Bling it on!
Today, volunteers have taken charge of the treasure trove, painstakingly cleaning bracelets, necklaces, rings and pins and sorting and organizing them for ongoing jewelry sales. In addition to the summer and winter jewelry sales at St. Ann Center, the collection can be found at special community sales, including at Milwaukee’s City Hall and the County Courthouse.
