Celebrating Black History Month with Song

By February 19, 2021No Comments1 min read

We got sunshine, on a cloudy day, thanks to a talented trio from the Skylight Music Theatre. Raven Dockery, Shawn Holmes and Kevin Sievert helped Bucyrus Campus clients and kids celebrate Black History Month in style, with songs from the likes of The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Lionel Richie.

The adult clients had a hard time sitting still, as the trio performed such stirring standards as “My Girl,” “All Night Long” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Impromptu, socially distant dance parties broke out during the hourlong set. The spacious atrium offered enough room for both the day care children and the adult clients to enjoy the music.

The entertainment was made possible by a partnership between St. Ann Center and the United Performing Arts Fund. The UPAF Connect program brings the performing arts to new audiences and ensures that all in the Milwaukee community can find inspiration, entertainment and connection through the arts.

Raven, Shawn and Kevin recently launched “For the Blacks and the Browns,” a podcast that brings together Blackness, pop culture, music, comedy and more.
