What is Respite Care?

Respite care provides temporary relief for caregivers from the continuous responsibility of caring for an individual with special needs.

One of the greatest challenges a family can face is trying to make a home for a family member who has physical and/or cognitive disabilities or who suffers from the frailties of aging.  The constant daily stresses of caring for a loved one with special needs is overwhelming.  Caregivers often sacrifice their own health and well being as they provide a home and try to enhance the quality of life for their loved one.  For this reason overnight respite care is the most requested and needed family support service.  Being able to offer overnight respite will allow St. Ann Center to fulfill the dream of providing a complete package of community-based services.

Respite Care Services Include:

• 24 hour care by experienced,

   professional and trained

   caregivers

• Private, single bed guest rooms

• Housekeeping and bed linen daily

   services

• Three hot, healthy meals a day and

   snacks

• Personal care assistance

• Medication management & medical

   needs supervision including,

   blood pressure checks and blood

   sugar testing by a registered

   nurse

• Activities such as day trips, arts,

   crafts, group games, group

   discussions, live entertainment,

   movies, seasonal activities

   and parties.

• Religious services, if desired.

Additional Services:

• Outpatient Rehabilitation

   Physical, occupational, speech-language and aquatic therapy

• Personal hygiene assistance / whirlpool baths

• Hair and nail salon

• Massage therapy

• Aquatic program - swim classes and open swim times

   (warm water - 88o pool and spa)

• Art and ceramics classes
• Music therapy

• Spirituality services

   Spiritual direction, pastoral counseling and hypnosis therapy

* These additional services may require additional costs and some of these services require a doctor’s prescription. These services must be arranged prior to stay.

Costs:

The average cost is $149 - $230 /day per person though, costs will vary depending upon additional services needed.

RESPITE CENTER GRAND OPENING!

At the Grand opening on April 5, 2007 Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan and Rabbi Ronald Shapiro blessed the new 9-bed respite center.

This 14,000 sq.foot addition added a large 9-bed respite area with large community living room, kitchen, dining room, whirlpool bathroom, laundry facilities and staff area. (please view photos below.)

The addition also added a state-of-the-art Outpatient Rehabilitation Department, a 4-chair Hair and Nail Salon and a large indoor Hot-Tub Spa in the Aquatics Department.
