A doggone good time will be had by all at the 3rd annual Darby’s Dash fundraiser, a pet-friendly and family-fun 1-mile walk and 5k run on Saturday, October 1. Check-in is at 9 a.m., and the run/walk begins at 10 a.m. The scenic course winds through the grounds of St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care, 2801 E. Morgan Avenue, and the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Motherhouse and St. Francis Seminary woods.

The fun walk/run features:
• Pre-race pet blessing
• Raffles and refreshments
• Free post-race chair massage for people and their pets
• Dog agility course

All proceeds from the event support St. Ann Center’s Care Champions program, which directly benefits youth, frail elderly and adults with disabilities who have no means to pay for services they desperately need. The Dash is inspired by Darby, St. Ann Center’s first canine volunteer, who showed the therapeutic value a loving pet provides. Since Darby, many more furry friends have offered comfort and companionship to the children and adult clients served at the Center.

For a registration fee of $25 for adults and $15 for children, participants will receive a T-shirt, tote bag and bandana for their favorite pet. Special “pack” discounts of $60 are available to families (two adults and two children).

St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care is a nonprofit organization located on Milwaukee’s south side for over 30 years. The Center, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, provides community-based education and health services to children, the frail elderly and adults of all ages and abilities, along with support for caregivers. The Center opened its second location, the Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Avenue, in September 2015, extending services to Milwaukee’s near north side.
